Grant is delivered to the Corvadt headquarters where Letts' assistant attempts to extract his knowledge of Janus from his memory. In the meantime Dugdale finds out that Anya is a member of the Network, who was used as a honey trap to secure his cooperation and so he sets fire to the shipping warehouse housing the vaccine, destroying all the samples. The other group members arrive to save Grant, who kills the assistant as they all believe that he is Mr Rabbit. Jessica, however, is forced to kill Wilson because he has grown sympathetic to the Network's aim. With the vaccine destroyed and the assassin dead the group disbands. Dugdale and his wife prepare to adopt Alice whilst Becky, Grant and Ian head for the safety of the Scottish highlands. Becky makes a call to her drug dealer Donaldson, who promises a limitless supply if she can find him the manuscript. Letts is not Mr Rabbit but explains that the Network's plan is to flood the market with the chemicals to curtail over-population and Becky and Ian are appalled that Wilson approves the idea. Wilson in fact releases Letts whilst the others are out but Letts is killed by his assistant and Geoff on his return to Corvadt. Dugdale withholds part of the evidence he took from the army camp and learns from professor Donaldson it is part of a germ warfare process but his attempts to blackmail the Network into releasing Anya backfire when Geoff shows Jen, Dugdale's wife, a tape of her husband having sex with Anya. Arby learns from reading the manuscript that as a boy he was tortured and brain-washed into becoming an assassin and seeks out Jessica, who is in turn looking for him. The others work out from Grant's memory and the manuscript portion Jessica held back that global food company Pergus appear to be involved in the spreading of the Janus disease in their products and linking up with Corvadt, who will market an antidote which only saves certain racial types. They believe that the Pergus boss Lane Monroe is Mr Rabbit and break into his flat but Alice, seriously affected by her mother's murder, shoots and kills him. However they are forced to give the manuscript to Arby after he has killed Alice's mother and escape to join the others. They contact Mrs Milner, who tells them that the manuscript contains the identity of a notorious assassin known as Mr Rabbit, as well as informing them that Jessica's father, Philip Carvel, believed in racial purity. After learning that Anya has been framed for Kaye's murder Dugdale seeks out food analyst professor Donaldson and uncovers a sinister camp which appears to be a testing ground for germ warfare.
